I’m turning 30 in a few months and have realized that aging is another skill I need to learn.

For those who’ve felt that faint ache of youth slipping away, this one’s for you.

It’s well known that around 30-35 you need to start working to feel good.

No more freebies. You must workout, eat clean, sleep well, and stretch—just to feel the same as when you were 18.

Hangovers hit harder and bad decisions now slap you across the face like a wet haddock.

Kind of sucks but such is life.

I’m currently in the “transitional” phase… I know what must be done to stay young, but have not yet gone all in.

That said, I’m genuinely excited. I see my 30s as a time to invest so much back into myself that I unlock a new level of vitality never before experienced.

The time period we live in gives me the confidence to say this.

We are currently hurdling through the greatest technological acceleration in human history.

Longevity escape velocity may very well happen as soon as 2029, as predicted by Ray Kurzweil.

This is the theoretical point where medicine adds more than a year to your life for every year lived.

It’s when medical progress outpaces aging itself. When we start “living forever.”

I’m undecided if humans ever will, or even should live forever.

What I’m more excited about is existing at 60 with the body & mind of a 30-year-old.

This reality is very much in the cards.

Here’s why:

I work in the anti-aging space and it’s insane how much money is being plowed into regenerative medicine.

It makes sense. There’s a lot of old people and old people have the money. The #1 thing old people want is to look & feel young. So, this is where the money is flowing.

The next step is to plow these billions into the following fields of converging exponential tech:

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • Biotechnology and Genomics

  • Quantum Computing

  • Robotics

  • Nanotechnology

  • 3D Printing

Here we have a perfect storm for rapid & accelerating technological development. Hence, my unshakable optimism for growing old.

That said, don’t see this as a hall pass to do whatever you want until “technology saves you.”

It should instead give you more reason to take better care of your body so you can take full advantage of what’s coming.

A wise man once said, “You can’t polish a turd.”

Don’t let yourself go. You can’t lose by keeping yourself as healthy as possible.

Also, staying healthy isn’t just physical — your mindset matters too.

The default aging mindset is, “This sucks.”

This thought came to me around age 27. I noticed my thinning hair, minor wrinkles, and other ever-so-slight signs I was putting on mileage.

This is why the mental habit of gratitude is essential for growing older.

Here’s a technique I’ve started to practice:

Instead of waking up looking in the mirror and focusing on your flaws, imagine yourself as an 80-year-old who magically woke up in a much younger body.

You’d be in awe of yourself. The still-taut skin, non-achy bones, and vivacious energy.

This is the mindset one must adopt to expertly age. Always be grateful for how young you still are.

A gratitude mindset should be the “base” of your aging operations.

Then, get excited by plugging yourself into the myriad of technological advancements that are happening right now.

The best way to bring optimism into your life is to consume positive news.

Right now, the most positive news comes from breakthroughs in tech.

Every week there’s something new. Just last week, MIT engineers figured out how to turn skin cells into neurons.

This breakthrough alone opens the door to realities like:

  • Regenerating neurons (restore years of bad decisions?)

  • Clearing amyloid plaques linked to cognitive decline

  • Restoring synaptic plasticity to help us better learn new skills in old age

  • Boosting mitochondrial function to bring more energy to the brain

It’s simply incredible the time we are living through.

This is why, as I round the corner to 30, I have nothing but giddy excitement for what’s coming next.

I hope you do too.

This is the coolest art piece I’ve ever seen.
