mama's wisdom
she never misses

My mom used to take me shopping for clothes.
She had this saying that’s stuck with me since:
“If you don’t love it, don’t buy it.”
This wise advice resulted in incredible outfits such as the one below:

I wore that GAP 2-piece until it was threadbare.
The ROI on that purchase was INSANE.
Now that I’m 28 I realize the deeper meaning of my mama’s saying:
Do not settle for just good.
Do everything possible to ensure you love everything in your life.
For example:
I fired my assistant a few weeks ago.
She was good but not great.
The thing about great is it delivers 10X the utility of good, not 10%.
That GAP 2-piece was great. It brought me 10X the enjoyment of lesser clothing.
Great employees make your life 10X easier, not 10%.
This is why it’s so worth it to find great people to work with you.
A-players. Unicorns. Team-member equivalents of my GAP 2-piece.
It’s not easy.
But it’s possible. Practice definitely helps.
Get your reps up. Keep hirin’ and keep firin’.
Let go of people QUICK if they’re not good.
Learn from your mistakes and pick better next time.
I hired my newest assistant last week.
She is incredible.
I would say she is a unicorn but I don’t want to pump her tires too much.
(I know you’re reading this Maria 😂 )
It did not find Maria by chance.
I hired and fired 5 assistants before her.
Some may say that’s a failure.
I would say I’m now very good at picking a great assistant.
My process:
Facebook ads -> application video -> test task -> interview -> hold a one-week tryout for the top 3 -> hire the best one.
So, let this email be a reminder to not settle.
Make an effort to find things you love.
Rid your life of things you don’t.
That is all.
See you next week. 🫡

P.S. If you want to hire an assistant, reply back with your biggest roadblock to doing so and I’ll do my best to help.

Cool things I found during my weekly internet stroll.
PSA don’t plug your phone into public USB ports.
This website lets you instantly visit Twitch streams with zero viewers. Probably the most random link I’ve posted.
Colombia has commenced the “holy grail” of shipwreck expeditions worth a potential $2B. BRB going to the coast.
Apparently the Chinese have cured diabetes. This is actually quite dope.

True size of countries. As a Canadian I feel emasculated.
