I just got back from a 4-day business mastermind in Costa Rica.

As you can see, the photo above does not contain any business.

Most activities on this trip did not contain business.

That’s why it was so great.

I don’t know about you, but I stay away from business events.

Conference rooms, long presentations, and forced networking ain’t for me.

I’d rather go surfing and then talk about world domination over a few beers.

We did a lot of this. šŸ˜‰

Tyler Denk, founder of Beehiiv (the software I use to run this newsletter), hosted the event.

He rounded up 6 founders and we spent 4 days soaking it up in paradise.

By the end of the trip, I knew precisely what to do to grow my agency business.

I furiously wrote down my action plan. Screenshot below if you’re curious.

I doubt my action plan is much help to you, so here are my top 3 insights from the trip:

1) A few smart people in a cool location = magic

You don’t need fancy itineraries or expensive speakers to make an awesome event.

You just need great people in a great location.

I hope this inspires a few readers to consider setting up their own masterminds.

Find some folks with similar goals as you and escape to a remote destination for a few days.

Add a mindset of ā€œlet’s figure this out togetherā€ and you’ll naturally solve each other’s problems.

People are deep fountains of knowledge and wisdom.

Great things happen when you combine the right brains together.

2) Seek out people who make more money than you

We’ve heard this all before but constant reminders are necessary.

We’ve all been through periods of complacency in our lives.

You feel comfortable but stuck at the same time.

Oftentimes, it’s because your immediate friends don’t make way more money than you.

Sounds shallow but it’s true.

On this trip, there was one guy making $5M/month at age 23 and another making $300K/month profit in his side business.

My emotions went from disbelief to jealousy, then ultimately inspiration & motivation.

The fire under my butt has been re-lit! šŸ”„

This is a gentle reminder to actively punch above your weight class.

3) TRACTION! I’m drinking the Coolaid and implementing

I’m surprised I haven’t heard of this book before.

It contains the defacto operating system for entrepreneurs.

We studied it all weekend and I’m implementing it in my agency as we speak.

I recommend this book if you want to further legitimize your business and make more money.

I’ll report back in a few months with my findings.

See you next week āœŒļø

P.S. This mastermind was so fun it’d be crazy not to eventually host one for EntreflĆ¢neur.

It’s in the cards for sure. As more people read this publication I’ll eventually be able to muster a group of 5-7 badasses for a trip.

I’m excited. For now, time to put my head down and grow this newsletter some more.

Cool things I found during my weekly internet stroll.

Sobering video visualizes the time in your life spent on screens. Good one to watch, especially if you have kids.

Gnarly vid of explosion at Yellowstone’s Biscuit Basin.

Rising inflation inspires ā€œunderconsumption coreā€ movement. Someone pls take advantage of this trend and sell these people something!

Website that ranks airlines & airports based on lost luggage frequency. This is why I avoid checking bags like the plague.

A reminder to regularly check your ego as too much literally leads to insanity.

šŸ‘†ļø Get good at stuff but do other things too.
