Dos Equis Man

Living life as an Entreflâneur can lead to many outcomes.

One of which is that you will become the Dos Equis man.

Remember the commercials? They were legendary.

Here’s every Dos Equis man commercial ever if you need a catch-up.

The clips are wildly entertaining and also a masterclass in branding.

"I don't always drink beer. But when I do, I prefer a Dos Equis."

This line alone is genius…

It positions Dos Equis as the rare exception for discerning drinkers with taste. It’s aspirational in a beautifully subtle way.

I was too young to drink in ‘08, but when I did, I preferred Dos Equis.

I could not get enough of “the most interesting man in the world.”

Those commercials hit a nerve deep within my soul. I quoted them all the time.

I now realize the Dos Equis man is the ultimate Entreflânuer.

This is because he is a walking contradiction.

The Dos Equis man is:

Disciplined yet spontaneous.

Sophisticated yet rugged.

Charismatic but mysterious.

Wise but also playful.

Respectful yet rebellious.

It’s rare for people to embody so many opposing traits.

It’s more common for folks to get stuck on one side or the other.

For example, the overly-disciplined high-achiever who’s no fun to be around.

Or, the “nice guy” who’s very polite but doesn’t possess a backbone.

The Dos Equis man captivates us all by maxing out both sides.

“He’s a lover, not a fighter… but also a fighter, so don’t get any ideas.”

Are such extreme levels of coolness unrealistic?

Yes.

Can you go wrong striving for such an ideal?

You cannot.

All you have to do is live vicariously through yourself. Engage with life as much as humanly possible.

Provide value to the world so you can buy your freedom.

Stack up a dizzying amount of experiences.

Learn new skills always.

(The Dos Equis man can speak French in Russian. I’m sure you can learn some Spanish 😉.)

Play an instrument. The Dos Equis man can play piano from a helicopter.

Lastly, practice flexing your opposing traits.

If you’re an introvert, try to go out more.

If you love to talk, stay at home and read a book.

If you’re a free spirit, add more structure to your life.

Let's all try doing this until we’re 60 and see who we become.
