Friendly reminder: everything that sucks in this life holds the seed for something great.

This is especially true in business.

Whenever business “sucks” - you usually come out swingin’ on the other side.

COVID was a great example. We lost all our clients but then used the free time to rebuild our fulfillment systems.

When things opened back up, we were cruising!

It’s a cool feeling to have a business that survived COVID.

Puts some steel in my spine for any chaos that may be coming.

Maybe we enter a recession in 2025. Maybe not. I am not worried.

How could one possibly worry about “the economy” anyway?

You have precisely zero control. Relax and get back to work.

Let’s say a recession does happen. It will be good for you.

Recessions are an opportunity to humble yourself, remember what’s important, and find contentment in the basics.

What does an Entreflâneur need to be happy?

Food, water, semi-comfy bed, laptop, fast internet.

This is all one needs to achieve perma-joy building cool stuff online.

I also like to have access to a good sound system, my saxophone, and a high-ceiling apartment with big windows.

That’s about it though. Don’t need more.

On top of resetting your contentment meter, a recession is another opportunity to sharpen the axe.

If the economy goes to shit, time to get better.

Go deep. Focus hard. Cut the accumulating fat from your business. Make everything simple, elegant, and clean.

I love a good excuse to lock in for an extended period of time. These are some of the most satisfying periods of my life.

Lastly, remember that a poor economy doesn’t affect just your business.

It affects your competitors as well.

This means, in relative terms, you’re at the same place you were before.

You still need to be better than the rest. So be better. The directive hasn’t changed.

This is why we became entrepreneurs in the first place. To take complete ownership of our circumstances.

The contract includes not complaining when things get tough and doubling down instead.

With that said, I think it’s best to assume the economy will collapse and prepare for the worst.

Set your expectations low and then prepare to work really hard.

This way you can’t lose.
